Impacted CaninesImpacted canines occur when teeth fail to erupt naturally due to obstruction or improper alignment. This is typically diagnosed by a dentist or orthodontist. Canine exposure and bonding is a procedure designed to facilitate the eruption of impacted canine teeth into their proper position within the dental arch. Working in tandem with your orthodontist, your surgeon will make a small incision in the gums to expose the impacted tooth. A bracket with a small chain is then bonded to the tooth. You will then return your orthodontist where tension will be applied to the chain to bring the tooth into proper alignment. Used in conjunction with local anesthesia, it does not cause the patient to lose consciousness. IV sedationIV sedation is commonly used for more complex surgical procedures or for patients with high dental anxiety. This type of anesthesia, administered through the vein, induces a state of unconsciousness. The patient is unaware of the procedure being performed. |
