TMJ DisorderThe temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is the hinge responsible for allowing the mouth to open and close. A TMJ disorder is present when there is pain in and around the joint and surrounding muscles. And, while this is a common condition, the cause is often unknown. When the joints are damaged or misaligned, patients can often experience feelings of discomfort and pain. Other symptoms include a clicking or popping sound when the mouth is opened and closed, jaw locking, chronic headaches, facial pain, and jaw pain and soreness. Most TMJ disorders are treated using nonsurgical methods, such as pain relievers, bite splints, physical therapy, or therapeutic Botox® administration. However, if conservative treatments fail, or in the case of severe TMJ disorders, surgical intervention may be recommended. Schedule Your AppointmentFind out if you need treatment for your TMJ!
